Every red dot optic is designed for close range combat and only has a 1x magnification. I own both the Eotech 512 and the Aimpoint Pro. People do it all the time.
If you feel that the differences between them are negligible, then go with the 512. The main reason people switch to a holographic sight is the sight clarity and dependability. Eotech’s XPS2 Holographic sight is a little bit newer than the aging 512 and therefore it’s slightly more expensive. Also, having 10 night vision settings is pretty impressive, and it’s one of the features that distinguishes the XPS3 from the Eotech XPS2, which only has daylight brightness settings. Both the Eotech 512 and XPS2 have more things in common than differences. The difference between EOtech XPS2 and 512 is minute. This holographic hybrid model … You’ll want EOTech’s new green reticle optics since green is supposedly picked up 6x faster by the human eye. Eotech 512 vs XPS2 Round 1: What They Have in Common. Since both these holographic sights aren’t compatible with night vision(Eotech EXPS3 and 552 are the equivalent night vision products) the only time it really makes a difference is when you add a magnifier.
If it were so inherently flawed, it would have never found the success which it still enjoys.
